Keeping Kids Healthy
The Hershey's Track & Field Games have been selected to the 2007 Class of the National Youth Sports Hall of Fame, honoring commitment, leadership, and constant efforts to support youth through participation in sports. The Hershey Company is known for its dedication to youth development programs throughout its long history.
In 1909, Milton Hershey and his wife Katherine decided the best thing they could do with their wealth was to endow a school where children could live and learn and discover their potential. Supported entirely by The Hershey Company, The Milton Hershey School is the largest residential school in America and provides free education and board annually to over 1,500 disadvantaged kids from 5 to 18 years of age.
The Hershey's Track & Field Games is another example of Hershey's social responsibility efforts. The Hershey's Track & Field Games has been instrumental in providing a clear Health and Well Being message to youth for over 30 years. Children between the ages of 9 and 14 are encouraged to get involved with Track & Field events that include running, jumping and throwing—things that most kids naturally love to do. By channeling their energy and enthusiasm into an organized track and field program, children are given the opportunity to learn about themselves, others and teamwork. At the Hershey's Track & Field Games, no matter how fast they run, how long they jump or how far they throw, every child is treated like a winner. This constant encouragement by adult mentors, including support by Olympic medalists, helps these kids realize their greatest potential.
The Hershey's Track & Field Games is an extension of Milton Hershey's philosophy and his legacy, helping children all across North America stay healthy. Track & Field meets provide an outstanding opportunity for children to make new friends and become committed to a physical fitness program.
