Description of Event

Join Hershey’s Track & Field Games 5K Run/Walk

Whether you run, walk, sprint, scramble or stroll – just put one foot in front of the other and enjoy a day of healthy fun and friendly competition. Join the festivities, and take a step toward an active, healthy lifestyle.

Hershey’s Track & Field Games 5K Run is a USA Track & Field sanctioned road race. Chip transponder technology will be used to obtain race results.

All participants will receive a Tee shirt, $14 discount coupon for admission to HERSHEYPARK Entertainment Complex (valid for the entire 2007 season), and a Hershey Track & Field “Legends” poster.

Description of the Courses

5K Race/Family Walk

The USATF certified 5 Kilometer (3.1 miles) course is a point-to-point course beginning at Founders Park in Hershey, PA and finishing at Henry Hershey Field located in The Milton Hershey School. Volunteers and support staff will be available for assistance. Aid stations will be set up at intervals along the route. Shuttle service will be provided back to Founders Park. Checking services will be available for personal belongings.

1K Fun Walk for CMN

The 1K Fun Walk begins at 8:30 AM at Children's Miracle NetworkHershey School and ends at Henry Hershey Field located in The Milton Hershey School. All proceeds collected from the 1K Fun Walk registration fees will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network.

Parking

For those participating in the 5K Run / Walk, please use the Hershey High School and Middle School Parking Lots on Saturday, August 4th.

Shuttle Service

Shuttle service will be provided for all events from 10:30 AM until 2:30 PM at 15-minute intervals.

Directions

From the East or West via the Turnpike:

Take exit 266 — PA 72 towards Lebanon/Lancaster. Turn Left (North) onto Lebanon Road – PA 72. Stay straight onto US 322 West. Turn Left onto Homestead Road.

From Harrisburg/York:

Take I-83 North. Merge onto US-322 East via Exit 46B toward Hershey. Merge onto West Governor Road/US-322 East toward Ephrata. Turn Left onto Homestead Road.

From Lancaster:

Take PA-283 West. Merge onto PA-743 North toward Hershey. Turn Right onto Homestead Road.

From Reading:

Take US-222 South. Take the exit toward I-76/PA Turnpike/PA-272/Denver. Turn left onto Colonel Howard Blvd./Spur Road. Colon Howard Blvd. becomes the Reading Interchange. Merge onto I-76 West/Pennsylvania Turnpike via the ramp on the left toward Harrisburg. Take exit 266 — PA 72 towards Lebanon/Lancaster. Turn Left (North) onto Lebanon Road — PA 72. Stay straight onto US 322 West. Turn Right onto Homestead Road.

After-event activities

Crossing the finish line is just the beginning! As a participant in the 5K Run/Walk you’re invited to stay and watch the Hershey’s North American Final Meet.

  1. Meet Track & Field Legends and Olympic Champions
    • Track & Field Legends: Carl Lewis, Rafer Johnson, Bruce Jenner and Michael Johnson will congratulate 5K participants at the finish line.
    • USA Track & Field stars: Sanya Richards, Monique Henderson, Bershawn Jackson, Hazel Clark and Canadian Olympian, Bruny Surin, will be available throughout the day.
  2. Watch exhibition events.
  3. Watch up-and-coming athletes compete for track & field honors
    • Young athletes, aged 9–14, participate in running and jumping events.
    • This year’s competition features an international mix of athletes from across the United States, Canada, and China.

Overall

$5,000 grant to high school aged runners / clubs (grades 9–12) winners—one $5,000 grant all male team and one $5,000 grant all female team

Class Division Competition

$1,000 grant to high school aged runners / clubs / teams who win in each division based on the following school enrollment:

  • Division 1: 1–349
    $1,000 male and $1,000 female
  • Division 2: 350–999
    $1,000 male and $1,000 female
  • Division 3: 1,000 and above
    $1,000 male and $1,000 female
  • Open Co-ed (any division)
    $1,000 minimum of 2 participating females
  1. Team members must be currently enrolled in high school — 2007 graduates are not eligible.
  2. A team must have at least 3 participants; maximum of 5 — prizes will be based on the 3 fastest times of the team.
  3. All participating members MUST sign the registration form and release form.

Amateur Status and Awards

To be eligible to participate in a sport, you must be an amateur in that sport. Amateur status, and eligibility, is lost if you, or your parent or guardian, receive money or property for or related to your athletic ability, performance, participation, services, or training in a sport.

You may receive awards only from your school, the sponsor of an athletic event, the news media, or a non-profit service organization approved by your school Principal. Permissible awards include a sweater, jacket, blazer, blanket, shirt, shorts, jersey, cap, watch, ring, scroll, photograph, medal, plaque, or similar trophy, which must bear appropriate organizational insignia or comparable identification.

GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS

$1,000 grants to groups or organizations with winning teams in each of these categories:

  1. A team may be comprised of participants from any recognized civic organization or business (e.g. scouts, community service, emergency, government, groups, clubs or companies)
  2. A team must have at least 3 participants; maximum of 5 — prizes will be based on the 3 fastest times of the team.
  3. All participating members MUST sign the registration form and release form.

5K FAMILY WALK

30 prizes with approximate retail value of $250 each will be awarded to families completing the 5K walk. Winners will be selected at random from two categories: 1) families represented by two generations, and 2) families represented by three generations.

Prize packages:

  • 20 for families with 2 generations of walkers
  • 10 for families with 3 generations of walkers

Prize package includes:

  • One-day pass pass for 4 to HERSHEYPARK Entertainment Complex (valid for the entire 2007 season).
  • $50 gift certificate to HERSHEY’S CHOCOLATE WORLD attraction
  • Personal tour of a Hershey Company plant
  1. To be eligible for a prize, the entire family who entered the event must complete the walk.
  2. Upon completion the Family’s ticket will be entered into a drawing for the prizes.
  3. All participating adult (18 or older) members must sign registration / release form
  4. Parents / legal guardian must sign release forms for children under 18 years of age
